More hassle in the stands: football match between SC Heerenveen and AZ stopped due to fireworks on the field

The match in the Eredivisie between SC Heerenveen and AZ was stopped after five minutes. This happened after fireworks were thrown onto the field from the stands. After more than twenty minutes, the match resumed at 0-0.

Referee Sander van der Eijk had sent both teams to the changing rooms. Discussions took place there, after which, after some repair work on the field, the teams returned to the field and continued playing after a short warm-up.

Last season, the match between AZ and Heerenveen in Alkmaar was also stopped. Then it was Frisian fans who threw fireworks on the field.
