Wolfsburg’s Mohamed Amoura led the Algerian national football team to the 2026 World Cup.
The striker scored two goals in the decisive 3-0 (2-0) win against Somalia in Bir El Djir. The 25-year-old scored in the seventh and 57th minutes. Riyad Mahrez (19th) contributed the third goal. Thanks to their success, the North Africans can no longer be pushed out of first place before the last matchday in Group G of the World Cup qualification in Africa.

They qualify directly for next year’s tournament in Canada, Mexico and the USA. This is Algeria’s fifth World Cup final appearance after 1982, 1986, 2010 and 2014. In addition to Amoura, national coach Vladimir Petkovic’s team included other Bundesliga players in Fares Chaibi (Frankfurt), Ibrahim Maza (Leverkusen) and Ramy Bensebaini (Dortmund).
The greatest success of the Algerians, who are currently ranked 38th in the FIFA world rankings, was reaching the round of 16 in Brazil in 2014. In a close and hard-fought duel they lost 2-1 after extra time to eventual world champions Germany.
