For the first time in over a year, Pete Alonso was not part of the New York Mets. However, a slight injury from the hand did not prevent the 30-year-old’s impressive 354 game series.
The all-star came to the field in the 3-2 win of his Mets against the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday in Seventh Inning as a substitute. In his substitution, he was celebrated with speech choirs by the 42,981 spectators in the sold -out Citi Field. It was the 354th MLB game in a row in which the First Baseman was used.
Only Matt Olson (718 games) from the Atlanta Braves is currently holding an even longer series. Because of a bruise on the right hand, Alonso’s effort was on the brink for a long time on Sunday evening. The Slugger said he was injured in a blow before the 2: 5 defeat on Saturday.
Alonso was “pretty concerned”
His hand had “felt terrible” after being injured again in his second blow, a flyout in the third inner. Subsequent X -rays, however, did not reveal too badly. However, the METS waived the normal stress on their superstar.
“After the game on Saturday I was pretty concerned,” Alonso said on Sunday: “But fortunately I had a good night to recover, and this morning I tried a lot of different treatments. It worked really well.”
Alonso had stood in the starting line -up in all 205 games of the METS since May 31, 2024. Both he and manager Carlos Mendoza assume that Alonso will be back in the starting line -up at the start of the series against the Los Angeles Angels on Monday evening.
“I really don’t care. I just want to be out there and play every day as long as I can. That’s just like that. And when I can play, I give everything. I was really glad that my body allowed me to be there today,” said Alonso.
