Mixed reactions to the location of the new Zeebrugge sea lock

The action group mainly opposes the disappearance of the planned Knapen city park, at the expense of a new connecting road. The green lung of 16 football fields would be transformed into a city park, but according to the plans, an underground tunnel of one and a half kilometers will start here.

“We are going to the Council of State. I am convinced that the entire Visart lock will be put on the slope and that people will have to listen to the Zeebruggenaar and opt for the connecting dock,” says Johan Mistiaen of the action group.

Fish auction protected

The Zeebrugge fish auction is reacting cautiously positively to the plans for the new sea lock. “We are very pleased that the fish auction has been safeguarded. We do not yet know what will happen to the quay and the jetty. I assume that the Flemish government will provide clarity in the coming weeks,” says Sylvie Becaus of the Flemish Fish Auction Zeebrugge.
