However, Flemish Minister for Mobility Annick de Ridder (N-VA) sees many practical objections. “Much more is needed than just a galvanizable pole,” she says. “Think of traffic lights, announcement signs, camera surveillance, diversion routes, and often on infrastructure that is not in the hands of the Flemish government, such as municipal roads.” According to De Ridder, the idea is understandable, but not easy to implement. “It sounds like an easy answer to a justified annoyance about criminal behavior, but it is not so obvious.”
