Minister Crevits presents childcare workers with flowers

Crevits also advocates a new HBO5 childcare training course. Finding suitable staff is difficult, and here too there is often a lot of puzzling to finalize the work schedule.

“Small children bring diseases and people drop out. You are also on leave. Then you have to make a choice, we call people back and then it is not easy to manage your organization according to the ratio that has been imposed,” says Hilde Delaere, director of the Mezennestje Daycare Center

One of the key players here is Annick Vanderspurt. She is an alderman, but has also been a part-time childcare worker for eleven years.

“That’s actually my dream job. When I have a bad or busy day, you think about politics. Then I come to Het Mezennestje, and the children put a smile on your face.”
