The World Cup is casting its shadow ahead – and will bring a lot of money into the coffers of the Bundesliga giants FC Bayern and Borussia Dortmund. Thanks to FIFA’s “Club Benefits Program”, both the German record champions and BVB are doing well in an international comparison.
According to a DKB calculation, a whopping 3.81 million euros will go to FC Bayern for the deployment of its professionals for the final round. Only Manchester City (4.55 million euros) receives more money.
Background: From June 1st, FIFA will pay out a daily amount of 11,000 US dollars (around 9,500 euros) to his current employer and pro rata to his former clubs in the past two years for each player listed in the 48 World Cup squads.
BVB also benefits massively from this regulation. Around 2.46 million euros flow from the world association’s accounts to Dortmund. That means eleventh place in the international ranking.
According to the calculation, TSG 1899 Hoffenheim is also in the top 20, with income of 2.07 million euros.
Eintracht Frankfurt, VfB Stuttgart and Co. also collect millions of dollars
According to the DKB, the Bundesliga clubs can look forward to a total of a good 21 million euros. Clubs like Bayer Leverkusen (1.86 million euros), Eintracht Frankfurt (1.77 million euros), VfB Stuttgart (1.44 million euros) and RB Leipzig (1.40 million euros) also earn seven-figure sums.
Relegated 1. FC Heidenheim and 1. FC Köln are not sending any players to the World Cup and therefore receive nothing from FIFA payments.
The basis of the DKB calculation is the elimination after the group phase. The amounts increase if the released players remain in the tournament longer.
And: The status of the evaluation is May 27th. At this point, not all nations had yet registered their final World Cup squads.
