The cruise ship where there was an outbreak of the hantavirus in April will sail again this weekend. This was reported by the Dutch shipping company Oceanwide Expeditions. 137 passengers embark on an Arctic expedition, with a doctor on board.
An outbreak of the hantavirus occurred on the m/v Hondius in April. Three people died from the effects of the virus after the outbreak on the ship. The boat was then placed in the port of Rotterdam to be thoroughly cleaned. All surfaces on the ship have been cleaned with hydrogen peroxide, all soft surfaces with hot steam.
The GGD and experts declared the ship clean after the cleaning. The cruise boat will sail from Spitsbergen again on Saturday for a new journey. That would entail fewer risks than the trip to South America. Tightened guidelines have been adopted.
