Milan club part ways with managing director Paolo Maldini



In a written statement from the red-black club, it was stated that Paolo Maldini’s tenure at the club ended on 5 June 2023.


The statement thanked Maldini for his contribution to Milan’s return to the UEFA Champions League and especially to winning the Serie A title in the 2021-2022 season.


It was stated that Maldini’s responsibilities will be transferred to a team that will work closely with the coach of the A team.


The Italian press has been stating that there was a disagreement between Maldini and the owner of the club, Gerry Cardinale, for a while. While it was reported that Cardinale was not satisfied with the team’s performance this season, it was written that Maldini wanted significant reinforcements for the next season, so the departure became inevitable.


The press also announced Milan’s latest statement with the headline “Divorce is official”.


It was noted that Ricky Massara, who is the sporting director with Maldini, is also close to separation.


Paolo Maldini, who is one of Milan’s legendary team captains and won 7 Italian Serie A, 5 Italian Super Cups, 1 Italian Cup, 5 UEFA Champions League, 4 European Super Cups in the 1984-2009 period, when he wore the red and black jersey continuously, 9 years after ending his active football career. He then returned to Milan as managing director in 2018.
