Punk guitarist Mikko Holmström has died, the band Pojat informs.

Musician Mikko Holmström has died.

A band colleague tells about the death of Holmström, who played in the band Pojat Miika Söderholm of the band With an Instagram account.

– I wished I never had to write this. Mikko Holmström passed away on Saturday 22 November 2025 from a serious illness. We met when we were 12 years old in an airplane club. 53 years of friendship, that’s a lot. There is a huge hole in my world now. Have a good trip dear brother and thank you. My deepest condolences to family and friends, Söderholm writes.

The punk band Pojat was founded in 1989. The band has been performing and releasing new music this year. In addition to guitarist Holmström and guitarist-singer Söderholm, the newest line-up included a bassist Miki Leivo and the drummer Timo Tolppa. Söderholm and Holmström were the original members of the band.

Before founding the band Pojat, Mikko Holmström, Miika Söderholm and a drummer Rabe Johansson played in the punk band Ypö-Viis. The band released new music after a 33-year hiatus in 2013.

Mikko Holmström was born Punkmuseo.fi website in Urjala in 1960.
