The night before Tuesday, Mikael Granlund became only the third player in Anaheim Ducks club history to score three power-play hits in one game.

Mikael Granlund showed Canadian puck fans a goal-scoring model and scored a hat trick in the Edmonton Oilers net. PDO

The hat trick was Mikael Granlund’s first in his new team. Kärppien’s grown-up is playing for the Anaheim Ducks in his first season.

In Ducks history, only two club icons, Teemu Selänne and Paul Kariya, have achieved the same feat. “Finnish Flash” scored three goals in 2008 and Canadian Kariya in 2001.

It was the third of the 33-year-old forward’s NHL career hat trick.

– Sometimes the puck goes into the goal, we try to keep it up in the future. We’ve been playing well as a team here lately. It also helps personally, Granlund explained his goals to the Finnish media.

The man from Oulu has been hit hard lately. In his last three matches, he has scored 3+3.

– We are missing a lot of guys now, it has also changed my own role in the team, says the forward who played 937 NHL regular season games and scored 636 power points in them.

Center or wing?

Mikael Granlund is ready to play both in the center and on the wing. PDO

During his career, 33-year-old Granlund has been seen in both winger and center positions. And to have come to see you in the future as well.

The man doesn’t differentiate between playing positions.

– I have played very good hockey in the middle and on both wings. I have never cared about the place of play. Whatever suits the team at that moment and gets the best out of it, suits me.

The Minneapolis situation

Granlund started his NHL career, and played almost seven seasons, with the Minnesota Wild. Minneapolis, the largest city in the state of Minnesota, has been in turmoil lately as residents have taken to the streets to protest raids by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) targeting immigrants.

ICE raids and other events in Minnesota started already in December. Two people have been killed in the unrest.

– I haven’t talked to anyone local about these things. I depend on the news like everyone else. It’s unfortunate what’s happening there, but I can’t tell you any more about what’s happening there, Granlund stated.
