Mijnans does not give up on CL qualifying round yet: “We still have six games to go”

AZ is in a difficult phase of the season. The Alkmaarders lost tonight against Sparta Rotterdam (0-1) and for the third game in a row there was no win. PSV is now on five points, but Sven Mijnans does not want to give up hope for second place. “We still have six games to go and we have to get back to work on that from next week.”

Sven Mijnans about second place, Anderlecht and Easter – NH Sport / Milton Pus

“We have constantly created great opportunities today”, the midfielder says as a starting point for the battle with PSV and Ajax. “One ball on the post, one on the crossbar, Nick (Olij red.) grabbed two headers from Jens Odgaard. You probably have no use in football. We have to be sharp again from next week and that starts Thursday.”

Pascal Jansen about the match against Sparta – NH Sport / Milton Pus

AZ coach Pascal Jansen thought that his team created enough opportunities to score goals in both halves. “We clearly didn’t have the form to score goals today. It is important to use those opportunities.” It is not assumed that the three mediocre matches in the premier league will have an impact next Thursday. “Today our attitude was good and we were in control. A moment like that (the goal against ed.) hurts you a lot.”

Pascal Jansen about Jesper Karlsson, Vangelis Pavlidis and Anderlecht – NH Sport / Milton Pus

Jansen kept his cards fairly low about injuries to Vangelis Pavlidis and Jesper Karlsson. “We’ll take a look at that. It was already decent today tricky that Pavlidis came in. He had quite a bit of swelling in his ankle, luckily he was able to help the team. For now, the signals about his ankle are positive.”

Karlsson was completely missing from the AZ selection. “Now all eyes are on Thursday. We hope that Jesper will make it. In any case, we will do everything we can.” Incidentally, the AZ players are only free on Easter Monday and Jansen will analyze Anderlecht-Westerlo tomorrow.
