Miedema unsubscribes from practice international Orange: striker is sick

FOOTBALL – Vivianne Miedema has withdrawn from the upcoming friendly match of the Orange squad. The 26-year-old striker from Hoogeveen is ill. The Dutch football players will face Norway next Tuesday in a friendly game. Practice against Zambia was scheduled to take place on Thursday, but that game has been cancelled.

Katja Snoeijs (26), playing for Everton, has been called up to replace Miedema and she will join the selection later today.

Lieke Martens and Stefanie van der Gragt, among others, are also not among them. “We look at what is best for each individual. And after good consultation with players and their clubs, we have decided not to call them up this time,” said national coach Andries Jonker about the absence of a number of players.

For the Orange, the practice campaign marks the preparation for the World Cup, next year in Australia and New Zealand.

Earlier today, Miedema, who plays for Arsenal, heard which opponents she will face in the Champions League. The attack leader from Drenthe will compete against two well-known fellow internationals: Danielle van de Donk (Olympique Lyon) and Lineth Beerensteyn (Juventus). Furthermore, the Londoners are linked to the Swiss FC Zurich in group C.
