Mick Schumacher will probably not replace Stroll at Aston Martin

Aston Martin driver Lance Stroll will miss Formula 1 winter testing in Bahrain after a bicycle accident. It is still unclear who will sit in the cockpit of the new car instead. Mick Schumacher does not appear to be an option as a replacement for the British team.

The Formula 1 winter tests start in Bahrain on Thursday. Aston Martin driver Lance Stroll will not be there, so he will start the new season, which begins at the same place on March 5, with less driving experience than his competitors.

In a bicycle accident in Spain, the Canadian suffered an unspecified injury that put him out of action for the test rides.

Meanwhile, nothing should stand in the way of an outing in Bahrain on the first race weekend. According to media reports, his team expects a timely recovery.

Formula 1: Mick Schumacher a candidate for Aston Martin?

Nevertheless, the unforeseen incident throws the plan of Sebastian Vettel’s former team for the upcoming tests upside down. Normally, the time on the track is divided equally between the regular drivers. It is possible that Stroll’s new team-mate Fernando Alonso will now contest all three test days alone.

Alternatively, Aston Martin could also put a replacement driver in the new AMR23 cars. In addition to the regular reservists Felipe Drugovich and Stoffel Vandoorne, Mick Schumacher was also considered a potential candidate, as he is under contract as a backup with Aston Martin’s engine supplier Mercedes.

However, according to “Bild” it is rather unlikely that the German will play the role of second driver alongside Alonso in Bahrain. Accordingly, the former Haas pilot is currently not an option.

However, this is not official yet. At the request of the tabloid, Aston Martin only announced that they would announce news about the driver pairing for the tests “in due course”.
