On the spot where there were first large flats, a new, cozy district was created: the Tuyn van Palensteyn. Mick (33) and Laila Lelieveld (32) live here together with their sons Luca (3) and Mateo (1). They exchanged their home in Seghwaert for a beautiful so -called Tuyn house.

Sixteen years together, married for seven years, two beautiful sons and a new -build house. Do you have your bingo card at hand? Because we have a full card here! The young couple is beautiful, and indebuurt was allowed to look inside.

From dormer window to new -build house

A new-build project seemed like a far-from-Hun-Bedshow, but nothing turned out to be further from the truth. And after the successful sale of their old home on the Perengaarde, a dream became reality. “We actually wanted to renovate and the dormer window had already been ordered,” says Laila. But after seeing the new construction project, they were pulled over. They ventured into it, and with success: “During the second phase we were one of the first three to come and watch, and we could still choose freely.”

Nice in the sunshine

But based on which you choose a new -build house that only exists on paper? “We wanted to be clear at the front, as close as possible to the water, and we looked closely at the position of the sun and the place of the shed,” says Laila. “The garden is on the west, so that there is always a part in the shade. Because we wanted a sunny sitting area at the shed, the position was important. All equally construction numbers have the shed on the right, so we had to have it.”

Difficult start

After choosing their home, the following challenge followed: the finish and layout. From countertop to toilet tiles, whether or not extension, high or low windows-even the front door had to be determined. There was enough to think about. And that while Laila just gave birth to their eldest son, Luca. “We had to make some hurried choices,” says Laila. “Luca was born on November 11, 2021 and the deadline was before Christmas. That made it difficult to also go past showrooms and hardware stores. We eventually even put together the bathroom completely online.”

But despite the hectic period, they tackled it carefully. Laila says: “I made millions of 3D sketches to see how we wanted to furnish the house. Even the garden I designed myself, and it has become exactly like the design. So much fun!” Almost all choices remained. Almost. “We had already ordered the kitchen in December 2021, but in January 2023 we changed ourselves. We wanted to adjust something, which had to shift pipes. That cost extra and was quite a hassle.”

Flower wallpaper?

Construction started in January 2022, but the delivery took longer. Where the first plan was January 2023, it soon became April, May, and finally August. Exactly the month in which Laila was calculated from their second son, Mateo. Highly pregnant she worked overtime on Instagram to gain inspiration for the design. She took the lead and made Mick a number of proposals from which he could choose. He was not so busy about the interior, but had one clear requirement: “I didn’t want a pronounced flower wallpaper,” he says.

Better a good neighbor

The Tuyn van Palensteyn is a quiet and pleasant neighborhood, and Mick has a good click with his neighborers. He says: “We started drinking beers, went out to dinner together, came together on each other’s birthdays, celebrated New Year’s Eve, and recently we went on holiday to Germany together.”

Laila also feels completely at home in the area. “I sit with one neighbor on balletles, with the other I regularly drink a coffee, and recently I went to Avifauna with another neighbor with the children,” she says with a smile. In addition, Laila worked hard for a playground in the neighborhood, with success! “There is just not that much for the little ones here,” she says. “So together with a neighbor I gathered 150 signatures for a playground. And in the very short term the municipality will already put two temporary devices!”

Noar ‘t north

And whether the couple wants to grow old here? They say: “Yes, although Drenthe also seems very nice to us. Nice in nature and in the break.” Yet the bond with Zoetermeer remains large. “Our families and friends live here. And there are many children in the area, that’s nice for the boys. You really leave something behind, so we’re in the right place for now.”
