Darter Michael van Gerwen has stranded in the semifinals of the Austrian Open. The 33-year-old resident of Vlijmen lost no less than 7-0 against Josh Rock from Northern Ireland.
Van Gerwen won the previous two editions of the Austrian Open, in 2022 and 2019. He reached the semi-finals by beating Simon Whitlock (6-2) and Ryan Searle (6-1) earlier in the day.
Against Rock, however, things went completely wrong. The Northern Irishman immediately broke the leg that Van Gerwen started and that set the tone. Van Gerwen was unable to throw out the doubles.
He missed an arrow on the double eight times and had to watch as Rock cashed in seven of his ten arrows to win the leg. Rock takes on Jonny Clayton in the final.
