The first thing you notice when listening to silver, the new album by Mia Morgan (release on March 21, 2025), are guitars, guitars, guitars. Meat, the 2022 predecessor album, sounded different-according to synth-gold school teen pop, eighties references in masses. Today, on the other hand, emo guitars, bring me the Horizon instead of The Human League and Ultravox. Harder music, Mia Morgan says in an interview, would have been more important to her.
Back to the beginning
At ten or eleven she started discovering bands, rock and metal. “When I first made more iehties inspired music, I thought a little more calculated what genre clikes I would like to play with.” For example in “Waveboy”, one of the most beautiful German -language pop songs of the 2010s. “With the new record, I have now wondered what makes you want to record, produce and play on stages?” So back to the beginning. Once musically about the music that she wants to make before all concept considerations (although the synth pop on silver is still shimmering through, for example in “poison”).
What do you say to the younger person?
Then back to the hometown, from Berlin back to Kassel. However, the new old place of residence is not decisive, after all, you could make music everywhere. And then the view is at least two pieces – “Echo” and “Father’s mother daughter” – back on the person you were. In the case of the video for “Echo” with VHS Home Recordings of the Young Mia Morgan, who sings for her family. “I don’t like this wording with the inner child because it has become such a phrase. But it is something on it. As a small child, you can get everything you want.” As an adult, one realizes that this is a lot more difficult with the artist: interior life. No more apartment in Berlin, the cooperation with the label ended after the first album, the great mainstream success did not appear. “If I could meet my younger one myself, I would tell her how shit it can be? Or would I leave her in this dream: ‘You made it and stand on a stage.
The “own queer sect”
The way to the second album was not easy, also because Mia Morgan now does everything himself – without a label, but with friend: inside. Producer Lukas Korn plays guitar in her band … Sales, Merch, Coverart, Videos: Everything is developed and pulled through with people from their own bubble. “Over the years, a base has emerged from people who come to all shows and they support me wherever they can.” And they now get a monument in the charming blasphemy video for “1000 small deaths”: Mia Morgan with a thorn crown in a last evening meal setting-people around them who perform very uncatholic. “That’s more than fans. We now have a small cult. A separate sect.”
Everything done yourself
Silver wants to go forward with everything, is energetic and radically independent: everything is done with people who trust the artist. Rely on friendships instead of business relationships. A contemporary train in times of influencers: indoor pop and lost plate company all power.
