The family business mey sets a strong example for sustainable value creation in the textile sector. With the new zero-waste felt bag, mey shows how leftover fabric from in-house laundry production can be consistently converted into a high-quality new product – while adhering to zero-waste principles. The bag consists of 40 percent off-cut materials from the mey Exquisite and Wool Love series, made from a fine wool-silk blend. It is supplemented by 35 percent fresh new wool and 25 percent polylactic acid fibers – a biodegradable corn-based fiber. The sustainable felt material is created in collaboration with the traditional Tyrolean company Gottstein, a specialist in sustainable felt products based in Austria.
The cut pattern of the bag was designed so that no additional waste is created during production – a zero-waste approach that extends down to the last detail. The bottom of the bag is also sustainably designed: It is made from reused packaging cardboard from previous thread spools and is removable, which combines functionality and ease of care.
The assembly takes place in Albstadt-Lautlingen, directly at mey – implemented by trainees as part of a training project. This not only strengthens local crafts, but also raises awareness among young people about sustainable production methods.
