Metallica covered “Black and White Like Snow” by Tankard in Frankfurt – and the record in German concert history awaits in Berlin.

Consolation in the stadium: Metallica in Frankfurt

Eintracht Frankfurt only made it to 8th place in the Bundesliga table and thus narrowly missed out on the international places. Anyone who still found their way to the stadium on Friday, May 22nd was consoled extensively. Metallica played two shows in Frankfurt – as part of the double shows, which do not allow for duplication in the setlist. While fans speculated for weeks about which songs they would hear, Metallica surprised with a cover: a song that neither appears in the Billboard charts nor in New Music Friday and is still deeply anchored in the hearts of many Frankfurters. We’re talking about Tankard’s “black and white like snow”. If you can’t do anything with that, you probably haven’t seen the final with Jürgen.

The unofficial anthem of Eintracht

“Black and white like snow” has been the unofficial second anthem of Eintracht from Frankfurt since 2018 and sings about the club colors and the future prediction that the DFB Cup will be won and the championship secured. A comforting prophecy from Metallica at the end of a rather mixed season – topped off with their own guitar solos. The desire for a new studio recording of this version could make one or two people in the heart of Europe dream again. Oh dear. Plus the performance of Metallica in the Gemaltes Haus, with a 12er Bembel and Handkäs with music.

Berlin hope: Metallica in the Olympic Stadium

Some Herthaners would also like to see a conciliatory end to the season. After all, the championship is difficult to win from the 2nd Bundesliga. The 7th place in the table and a narrow 6:1 defeat trigger cautious euphoria for the coming season. But after all, Metallica is there to be able to celebrate success in the Olympic Stadium again. They are coming to Berlin on May 30th and are breaking U2’s stadium record – with 95,000 spectators, it will be the largest stadium concert in German history.

The question remains about song selection. Hertha’s anthem is called “Just Home” by Frank Zander and, let’s say, has a less rocky origin: swaying arms-around-the-shoulders instead of mine-puckering guitar solos. But if anyone can translate this classic into a rock version, it’s probably Metallica. So all Herthaners can keep their fingers crossed that they will also get their own cover version. In any case, the text would work well as an encore intro: “Only home, only home, only home, we won’t go!”
