The accounting judiciary rejected the legitimacy of the resolution that assigns the resources to build the structure that wants to connect Calabria and Sicily. Salvini: serious damage for the country, but let’s move forward. Meloni: the judges will not stop the government action
The formal reasons are technical but in the meantime everything stops. On 29 October the Court of Auditors rejected, denying legitimacy, the resolution of the Cipess (Inter-ministerial Committee for economic planning and sustainable development) which distributes the resources intended for the construction of a bridge over the Strait of Messina. The reasons for the decision will be made known within thirty days. Infrastructure Minister Matteo Salvini commented: “The decision of the Court of Auditors is a serious damage to the country and appears to be a political choice rather than a calm technical judgement. While waiting for the reasons, I immediately clarify that I did not stop when I had to defend the borders and I will not stop now, given that we are talking about a project hoped for even by Europe which will provide development and thousands of jobs from south to north. We are determined to take all possible paths to get the work started. Let’s move forward”. The reaction of the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, was even more decisive: “The Court of Auditors’ failure to register the Cipess resolution regarding the bridge over the Strait is yet another act of invasion of jurisdiction over the choices of the Government and Parliament”.
