Sanaa (dpa -Afx) – On the coast of Yemen, attackers attacked a merchant ship with armored fits and other weapons on small boats. Security forces had returned the fire, the British authority UKMTO responsible for security of merchant shipping said. Ships were asked to drive the area carefully. There were no reports about victims at first.
The British security service provider Ambrey later reported that he had received information that water penetrates into the ship and the crew prepared to leave it.
Suspicion is directed against the Huthi militia
Who was behind the attack was initially unclear. However, the suspicion was aimed at the Huthi militia supported by Iran, which had attacked ships in the Red Sea after the beginning of the Gaza War in October 2023-supposedly to support the Palestinians. According to Ambrey, the attacked ship falls targeted in the scheme of the victims taken by the Huthi militia.
After severe air raids from the United States in Yemen, the Huthi actually approved a ceasefire in May. Since then, there have been no major incidents. The US attacks in Iran in June may have prompted the militia to take the attacks in the Red Sea again. At first there was no explanation of the Huthi.
The Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea leads one of the most important shipping routes for world trade. Many shipping companies continue to avoid the route because of the danger from Huthi attacks, in which crew members were killed or injured or injured and ships were damaged or even sunk. The attacks have massive effects on ship trade and have caused economic damage in billions
