Mercedes apparently offers unnecessary employees with the “golden handshake” a lot of money for their resignation.

• A “golden handshake” is offered.

Mercedes-Benz plans to save around 5 billion euros by 2027 and will reduce positions in the administration. To achieve this, the company offers its employees a financially attractive incentive in the form of a “golden handshake”. According to a report by the “Handelsblatt”, which is based on information from the intranet of the Stuttgart car manufacturer, severance payments of up to 500,000 euros are possible if long -standing employees canceled voluntarily.

“Next Level Performance” brings money blessing for dropouts

The severance payment program, known as the “Next Level Performance” (NLP), begins in April, runs until March 2026 and initially aims at employees outside of production. According to calculations, for example, a 55-year-old team leader could expect gross earnings of 9,000 euros and 30 years of work to over half a million euros. According to the “Handelsblatt”, a 45-year-old clerk with 20 years of service and a gross income of 7,500 euros would receive around 300,000 euros.

Principle of double voluntariness

As usual with such austerity measures, the offer is based on the principle of double voluntariness. This means that the employees have to terminate themselves in order to receive the severance pay and at the same time have to agree to the termination company. Employees who are indispensable for the company are therefore excluded from this offer. In March, the group had agreed on the savings program with the general works council. This agreement stipulates that operating terminations at Mercedes-Benz are excluded by 2035.

The Mercedes-Benz share ultimately lost 0.22 percent to 58.36 euros on Friday via Xetra.
