Meppel station lift fails again: two people freed

Once again the elevator at Meppel station has caused problems. A man and woman were reportedly trapped for almost an hour this morning.

The fire brigade was called around 10.40 am to free the pair from their dire position. With a crowbar at the ready, they pried the door open.

The lift has been provisionally declared defective and cannot be used. A bystander reports that a technician is on his way to get the system working again.

The station lift in Meppel has a history of incarcerations. ProRail said in May last year that this is due to disruptions, students bumping into the door with their bicycles or vandalism. It is not known what caused the defect this time.
