Men’s Sudosa Desto end season with hard-fought victory

VOLLEYBALL – Sudosa-Desto has won the last game of the year. In the top match against AVV Keistad, 5 sets were needed, but the Assenaren won the deciding set 15-12. The men of Sudosa-Desto conclude an excellent season in the Top Division with an unofficial second place.

Until halfway through the first set, the teams were level, but Keistad managed to create a gap of a number of points. They no longer gave these away, so that the set went to the visitors relatively easily, 19-25.

The Assenaren quickly ran out to a 6-0 lead in the second set. The home team managed to hold on to this margin throughout the second set, and they won it 25-20. In the third set, the teams were more evenly matched, but again it was the guests from Amersfoort who managed to create a gap halfway through the set. This lead was never relinquished and Keistad won this set 20-25.

The top teams from the Top Division were also evenly matched in the fourth set. The initiative kept changing sides, but in the crucial phase of the set it was Sudosa-Desto that managed to push through with a 25-22 win.

In a blood-curdling final set, both sides could stand out. Sudosa-Desto quickly took a 3-point lead, but the visitors equalized again to 11-11. During the last points, Henk Gootjes’ team had better organization and managed to win the set 15-12.

The other team from Drenthe in the Top Division had a tough job ahead of them. Olhaco welcomed the leader Dynamo from Apeldoorn at home and the difference in the ranking was clearly visible in the match. The Hoogeveners had nothing to say against the unofficial champion of the Top Division. Menno Volkerink’s team went down 3-0: 10-25, 19-25 and 11-25.

Despite the last place in the ranking, we will see the gentlemen of Olhaco again next year in the Top Division. The Dutch volleyball association has decided that no teams will be relegated this season.
