A Wednesday evening and Bayern Munich – Club Brugge on TV and yet a lot of people went to the Vauban in Menen for the opening match of the volleyball season against Maaseik. And whoever came was not wrong. From set one the level was immediately high and both teams gave each other little margin. Ultimately, the home team won the set with the smallest difference, 25-23.

At 19-19 in the second set it seemed to be a thriller again until the hole, but suddenly Maaseik switched up the serve and it went to 19-24. Enough to win the set, 20-25 and 1-1 Menen did not hang its head after losing the set and started the third excellently and the visitors again reached a high level. Both teams went to great lengths and it was only decided at 28-27 and a fifth set ball for the West Flemish players. 2-1, de Vauban in ecstasy.

And just when everyone thought we were on our way to a five-setter, Menen took it up a level. It completely outplayed Maaseik and with 25-16 it immediately took the first victory of the season.

National champion Knack Roeselare also did what it had to do. They never ran into any problems on the Waremme field and won easily 0-3. Set scores 13-25, 21-25 and 22-25.
