Eintracht Braunschweig’s defensive staffing levels are becoming increasingly thin. Now another regular player is out for the duel with VfL Bochum.

Eintracht Braunschweig will have to make do without Mehmet Aydin in the landmark second division game against VfL Bochum next Sunday (kick-off: 1:30 p.m.). As BTSV announced on Monday afternoon, the outside player sustained a muscle injury in the defeat against 1. FC Nürnberg (1:2) last Saturday. This was revealed by an MRI scan.

Although the injury was “minor”, it still prevented him from playing against the Revier club with the same points. Aydin can therefore play again against Hertha BSC after the international break on November 21st at the earliest. “We wish you a good and speedy recovery, Memo!” said the club.

Against Nuremberg, Aydin sat down on the pitch in obvious pain after just five minutes of the game and was unable to continue playing. Fabio Kaufmann came into the game shortly afterwards.

Aydin, who was signed by league rivals FC Schalke 04 in the summer, is one of coach Heiner Backhaus’ regular staff. He has already played twelve competitive games for Eintracht this season, contributing two goals and three assists.

With the 23-year-old’s loss, Coach Backhaus’s defensive personnel concerns are increasing. In addition to the already injured Lukas Frenkert and Frederik Jäkel, Kevin Ehlers is also suspended after his yellow-red card against Nuremberg. After the club’s bankruptcy, Backhaus had already announced that he wanted to “fly forward” against Bochum if necessary due to a lack of defensive specialists.
