It is an important partnership for the nautical world: on the one hand Hondathe world’s largest engine manufacturer, on the other McLaren Engineeringa company engaged in the design and construction of propulsion and transmission systems for the sector automotive. Not for the F.1 team, which has a different history: McLaren Performance Technologies was founded in 1969 as service of Bruce McLaren Motor Racing. In 2003 it was acquired by Linamar Corporation, which deals with many sectors and represents its research and development division. The collaboration was favored by the fact that Linamar is a supplier of engine components for Honda cars. The first operation was to put the tried and tested to work BF250 3.6 liter V6which brings with it all the main characteristics of the company’s engines, including integration with other products Honda Marine and the five-year warranty.

To shake up the BF250, which is based on the 3.6-liter SOHC V-tec V-6, McLaren worked carefully. THE’M300 it was equipped with a new engine control unit, a revised fuel system, and a hotter cam for better valve timing. The strong point is the gain of 50 HPwhich does not correspond to an increase in weight: the M300 is 666 mm high and weighs 276kgsignificantly less than a BF350 5-liter V8. The modifications to the thermal unit have made it possible to raise the rotation speed to 6,400 rpm. Where it must be mounted in pairs, the integration of the joystick steering system Optimus 360 from Dometic makes maneuvering much easier. Already announced that the partnership between Honda Marine And McLaren Engineering will lead to the development of other outboard models for limited series.
