The latest film marks the return of actress Daisy Ridley. She was already seen in three previous films from 2015 (The Force Awakens), 2017 (The Last Jedi) and 2019 (The Rise of Skywalker) as the rebellious Rey.
Ridley received a standing ovation from 4,500 fans at the Star Wars Celebration in London on Friday. The four-day event, which attracts tens of thousands of visitors, is used, among other things, to present new series and films from the Star Wars universe.
This is done through promotional interviews with the makers and short scenes that are shown in public for the first time. The emphasis is on the television series that appear on the streaming service Disney +. One of the series is The Acolyte, in which the bad guys will dominate. Director Leslye Headland describes the series as a cross between the Disney film Frozen and the Tarantino film Kill Bill. The story takes place a hundred years earlier than the early Star Wars films. Like Star Wars creator George Lucas, Headland was inspired by the classic samurai films of Japanese grandmaster Akira Kurosawa. The recordings for The Acolyte are still in full swing and the result should be seen in the course of 2024.
Lead role for Jude Law in Skeleton Crew
Another new Star Wars project is Skeleton crew starring Jude Law. He is surrounded by a young cast of twelve-year-olds who also experience adventures that will be less intense than the adult series. The makers label it as a Goonies-like series. For Law, this is a dream come true. “I was introduced to Star Wars for the first time when I was six years old. That was an unforgettable experience for me.”
Another new series is about the Jedi Ahsoka, in which Rosario Dawson played the character she previously played in, among other things. The Mandalorians develops further. The first images of the new series were enthusiastically greeted by fans with a lot of waving of the lightsabers they brought along.
The Mandalorians is now on its third season. That goes the series Andor, in which Diego Luna plays the eponymous rebel hero. It was officially announced that the second season will be the last. But the makers promise that a suitable and controversial ending has been devised for it.
