The race weekend in Spain is running smoothly for Max Verstappen. After the world champion clocked the fastest time in all three free practice sessions, he was Saturday in a class of its own in qualifying. Enough reason to look forward to tomorrow’s race with great confidence. “It should be fine at pure speed.”
Qualifying started chaotically as the track was wet due to some rain showers. “The start of qualifying was a bit treacherous with the circumstances,” Verstappen told Viaplay. “It was very important to find the right rhythm. And in the end that worked out well. Then you can really go to the limit.”
The difference with number two Carlos Sainz was almost half a second, while Verstappen also had the luxury of being able to abort his ultimate fast lap because the mission had already been completed. ,,It’s going very well, but we already knew that. Tomorrow we have to have a good start. Then you never know what can happen with safety cars and stuff, but at pure speed it should work out.”
Verstappen is having a good time in Barcelona anyway, the circuit where he once booked his first victory in Formula 1. ,,I like being here, the track, the fans, everything is beautiful. And I have fond memories of this match. Hopefully there will be another one tomorrow.”
