Max Huiberts notes ‘a slightly too large AZ selection’ and is also counting on Pavlidis goals in 2024

Today AZ organized the annual New Year’s drinks in its own stadium. Pascal Jansen and directors Robert Eenhoorn and Max Huiberts, among others, addressed the guests. We proudly talked about the successful year 2023 and looked ahead to the second half of the season. Technical director Max Huiberts also took a closer look and discussed, among other things, the state of the selection.

“Last winter, after the departure of a number of important players, we decided to broaden the selection a bit. Also because we were active in Europe, in the cup and in the competition. Then you ultimately have a large group of players. I personally think that we are a little too big. That automatically provides less perspective for some players,” says Huiberts.

“We now have seven players for the winger position”

“Every player must have perspective and that has not always been the case,” Huiberts continues. “Particularly due to the rapid development of Jayden Addai, we now have seven players for the winger position. And that is a lot. Perhaps too much of a good thing. These are things that I look at critically and how we can organize this better. “

Max Huiberts about Pavlidis and potential reinforcements – NH Sport

The 53-year-old Huiberts is very hopeful that Vangelis Pavlidis will continue to score goals for the club in the second half of the season. “I assume that he will go all out for his top scorer title. I would love that. He is well on his way. Maybe he will end up in the history books. For the time being, we certainly assume that Pavlidis will still be with us for the second half of the season. plays.”

If Pavlidis does leave, AZ apparently already has his successor in place in the person of Mexx Meerdink. “Mexx is one of the potential strikers. Only Mexx has to show it. He can now do that well in the first division and in the minutes he gets at AZ 1.”
