Thanks to Angela de Jong, it has been leaked that Matthijs van Nieuwkerk is busy behind the scenes with all kinds of repair conversations, so that he can make his TV comeback with a clean slate. Yet there are doubts about the sincerity of the presenter, because why would he only start doing so eight months after the revelations?

Matthijs angry about hair dryer?

At the end of last year, Jelleke van Rijkind was one of the few victims of Matthijs’ misconduct who wanted to tell her story in the media. She told in de Volkskrant and in RTL Boulevard how she was fired as his make-up artist. “He suddenly wanted to see my hairdryer. He thought maybe it was because of my hair dryer that his hair wasn’t right.”

From then on she was only allowed to dress up Matthijs’ guests, but that also came to an end. A few months later she arrived at the TV studio and: “Then Matthijs started screaming, like: ‘You are responsible for that Private piece! I don’t want to see you anymore, you have to go!’ Where everyone was. He was very angry.”

Repair calls

Both Privé and Jelleke have denied ever having spoken to each other anonymously, but to no avail. Jelleke suffered terribly from the ruthless way in which she was directed to the exit.

Last week, Jelleke confirmed to Boulevard that she had talked to Matthijs. “I have spoken to Matthijs twice and that has been good for me. It cleans up and gives recognition. After the publication of the Volkskrant story, I wanted to talk to him and that was accepted. I don’t know what it meant to him.”

The Story states that one of those conversations already took place on December 9, 2022, just three weeks after the publication of the Volkskrant article. Matthijs and Jelleke were then spotted by Story paparazzo Edwin Smulders while walking around in Amsterdam-Buitenveldert for an hour. “So his repentance does not seem feigned.”

For reasons that are unclear, the Story is only now releasing those photos. She in a brick red winter coat, he in a Boston Red Sox cap. “Matthijs and Jelleke walked around for at least an hour and fifteen minutes,” says an eyewitness. “They seemed calm, there was no hostility. Matthijs did seem very wary.”

Gray beard

According to the eyewitness, Matthijs clearly did not want to be spotted. “He visibly tried his best not to be recognized, which was not easy with his gray beard and dark clothing. He also kept looking down while walking, I could see when they walked by again.”

When asked, Jelleke now tells Story: “I am not saying anything about the conversations with Matthijs anyway. I don’t think it’s appropriate to say anything while the investigation is ongoing.”
