Franck Ribéry, Arjen Robben, Lothar Matthäus: FC Bayern competes with a top-class squad at the unique legend tournament in honor of Franz Beckenbauer. In addition to the former stars Ribéry, Robben and Matthew, Giovane Elber, Roy Makaay and Stefan Effenberg also include at the Beckenbauer Cup. The long-time Munich captain Philipp Lahm will be part of the Bayern legends for the first time as a coach.
In addition to the Munich Idolen, the Legend teams of Real Madrid, AC Milan Glorie, Ajax Amsterdam, Borussia Dortmund and VfB Stuttgart also take part in the Kleinfeld-Hallenturnier in the Munich SAP Garden on Monday (6.30 p.m.). According to the information, the fans can therefore look forward to former stars such as Iker Casillas, Dida, Lucas Barrios or Kevin Kurányi.
The tournament takes place as part of the 125th anniversary of FC Bayern. The revenues should benefit the Franz Beckenbauer Foundation. According to its own statements, it supports people with disabilities and people who are sick or through no fault of their own. The German football icon Beckenbauer died on January 7, 2024 at the age of 78.
The six teams meet at the tournament in five-against-five duels. In group A, FC Bayern, Real Madrid and Ajax Amsterdam are. In Group B there are AC Milan Glorie, Borussia Dortmund and VfB Stuttgart. The best two teams of each group move into the semi -finals.
