Martine Rose and Nike launch soccer capsule

Just in time for the start of the women’s football World Cup, the British-Jamaican designer Martine Rose and the sports goods manufacturer Nike have launched a collection inspired by the ball sport.

Designed for women footballers ahead of the Women’s World Cup, the Capsule blurs the lines between men’s and women’s football style with gender-neutral, tailored player apparel. The goal is to expand the culture of sports for the next generation, Nike said in a statement on Monday.

Martine Rose and Nike’s gender-neutral collection offers a mix of sports and fashion. Long-sleeved tops are reminiscent of jerseys and suits meet the well-known Nike Swoosh. The collection intends to merge the moments of “getting off the plane” with “arriving on the field” and elevating the look of elite women’s sport.

“I hope one day we’ll stop talking about gender in sport and just talk about sport,” Rose said. “When everything else falls away, only the game remains.”

The collection also includes the latest version of the Nike x Martine Rose Shox Mule MR 4. The bright colorway of the shoe pays homage to the goalkeeper jerseys of the 1990s. The shape of the sneaker, in turn, is a “talisman for justice in football”.
