Markus Kauczinski will be the new head coach of TSV 1860 Munich from Monday and will replace interim coach Alper Kayabunar.
TSV 1860 Munich has a new head coach: Markus Kauczinski will take over the sporting management of the Lions professionals from next Monday, the club announced on Thursday evening. The 55-year-old most recently coached SV Wehen Wiesbaden until April 2024. Kauczinski is supported by assistant coaches Markus Brzenska and Nico Masetzky, athletic trainer Philipp Kunz and goalkeeping coach René Vollath.
Successor to Kayabunar and Hunchback
Kauczinski follows interim coach Alper Kayabunar and predecessor Patrick Glöckner, both of whom recently looked after the team. With his experience he should stabilize the Lions again after a difficult start to the season.
Stations at KSC and St. Pauli
Kauczinski, born in Gelsenkirchen, started his coaching career in the youth team at FC Schalke 04 and then worked for Karlsruher SC for many years. With the KSC he managed to get promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga in 2013, and two years later he narrowly missed making it to the Bundesliga.
For his achievements, he was named “Trainer of the Year” by the DFB in 2015. This was followed by positions at FC Ingolstadt 04, St. Pauli, Dynamo Dresden and most recently at SV Wehen Wiesbaden, with whom he achieved promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga in 2023.
Newer Bearers of hope
“I’m really looking forward to my job at TSV 1860 Munich,” said Kauczinski when he was introduced. “From Monday it’s important to work out the team’s strengths and send them well prepared for the home game against MSV Duisburg.”
Also Interim managing director Manfred Paula is satisfied with the commitment: “Markus has proven in the past that he has all the skills to work successfully with our team. We are convinced that he is the right man for TSV 1860.”
With Kauczinski, the Lions want to get back on the road to success after a difficult start to the season.
