For Markus Eisenbichler, Christmas used to mean: Soon he’ll be going to the Four Hills Tournament as a ski jumper. After his career, the Bavarian enjoys the benefits of the festival.
Former top ski jumper Markus Eisenbichler is looking forward to the benefits of his first Christmas after retirement. “You can make it a little more festive,” said the 34-year-old in a Eurosport media round. “You can eat one more steak or drink one more beer.”
This year he will no longer be preparing for the Four Hills Tournament, which begins on December 29th in Oberstdorf. Eisenbichler, who celebrated six titles at world championships in his long career, ended his career last spring. He doesn’t regret that. “I don’t miss the fact that I jump again myself,” he said.
The Bavarian enjoys his life after competitive sports. He said he was more relaxed now. With a smile he also said: “I’ve gotten a little fatter.” He likes his new everyday life. “I have a really nice job at the federal police with great colleagues,” he said. “On the weekend I just enjoy the free time or commenting.”
Eisenbichler works as an expert for Eurosport and would like to continue ski jumping in the future. “I’ve done this for so long and put so much heart and soul into it. It just remains a part of you.”
