In the interim market value update of the Argentine professional league, there is a clear winner who has been the focus of particular attention in recent weeks: Mateo Retegui doubled his market value to 16 million euros and overtook Nicolás de la Cruz, who was devalued by 2 million to 11 million euros, as the most valuable Players in world champion country.

23-year-old Retegui is still officially at Boca Juniors but Tigre has an option to buy 50 per cent of the transfer rights which the club will certainly take advantage of. The rumors about the top scorer moving to Europe (Milan, Inter, Atlético or most recently Eintracht Frankfurt) have spread over the past few days and should even pick up speed after his strong performance in the European Championship qualification.

Former market value leader de la Cruz of River Plate, meanwhile, is among the top three most depreciated along with CA Colon’s attacking midfielder Facundo Farías (-2m to €6m) and Boca forward Jan Hurtado (-2m to €2m). players of the league. They include the aforementioned striker Hurtado, who has not played a minute since returning to the club, Luis Vázquez (-1.5m to €2.5m), Sebastián Villa (-1m to 5m) and Juan Ramírez (-0.8 to 2.2m).
At River Plate, alongside the aforementioned de La Cruz, Esequiel Barco (-1 to €6m), Paulo Díaz (-1 to €4.5m) and Agustín Palavecino (-1 to €4m) are the main contributors to the Loss from €3.9m to €93.8m, although the “Millonarios” remain Argentina’s most valuable club, with a difference of almost €15m compared to arch-rivals, also because the very convincing striker Lucas Beltrán increased his market value 6 million euros doubled. A year ago, River’s squad was valued at €118m, and in 2021 it’s €163m at this point. The next generation of great talent has yet to emerge to reach such heights again.
The latter applies to Vélez Sarsfield for 17-year-old Gianluca Prestianni, whose market value increases by 3 million to 5 million. Christensen says: “He is arguably the most promising player in Argentine football, taking his first steps with Vélez and Argentina U17 team – his talent is evident despite his limited playing time in the first division.”
