Marianne Vos fell on Sunday afternoon during the first stage of the Vuelta Femenina. Due to the crash, the rider from Babyloniënbroek fell short of the final of the stage.
Marianne Vos crashed in a bend with some other riders about 8 kilometers to the finish, fought back, but could not play a significant role in the final. The 38-year-old rider from Visma – Lease a Bike crossed the finish line in seventh place. Karlijn Swinkels (UAE Team ADQ) from Handel was the best Dutch rider in sixth place.
Afterwards, Vos said she was “okay” after the fall. “But I have to see how it goes,” she said in front of the Eurosport camera. She also thanked her teammates who helped her back to the peloton. “At that point you have to see what happens. The team tried to bring me back. I’m grateful for their help.”
Cyclist Noemi Rüegg managed to win the first stage of the Vuelta Femenina. The Swiss from EF Education – Oatly was the first to cross the finish line in Salvaterra de Miño, near the Portuguese border, after 113 kilometers through the Spanish region of Galicia. In a sprint she stayed ahead of the Belgian Lotte Kopecky. Germany’s Franziska Koch came third.
