Transfer quake after a botched start
BVB wants a DFB professional – but may bring in an England star

The start of the new year was anything but satisfactory for Borussia Dortmund. Now BVB wants to strengthen the squad – and has some top-class players in mind.
2:3 against Bayer Leverkusen, 2:4 at Holstein Kiel: For Borussia Dortmund, the year 2025 began with two painful bankruptcies. The actual title candidate has dropped to tenth place in the table after half of the games to be played.
In order to at least achieve the minimum goal of qualifying for the Champions League in the coming weeks, BVB is now looking intensively at the transfer market. As “Bild” reports, sports director Sebastian Kehl and managing director Lars Ricken have recently held a number of discussions. The consequence: Apparently there could be a phenomenal transfer.
England international Marcus Rashford is still said to be a hot candidate for a move to the Bundesliga. Recently, several media outlets reported an opposite development. But “Bild” writes that more has already happened at BVB than just a loose review of the loan. The Manchester United professional is a serious option for Dortmund – despite the high costs.
The preferred candidate in Dortmund to replace Donyell Malen, who recently moved to Aston Villa, is apparently still another professional: Kevin Schade. The four-time German international has been under contract with the English first division club Brentford since 2023. Schade has played 21 Premier League games for the Londoners this season, contributing five goals and two assists.
Malen’s departure cost Dortmund 25 million euros. Another five million could be added through bonus payments. BVB would prefer to buy the ex-Freiburger Schade, who would probably like to return to Germany. According to the report, a transfer has not yet been implemented. This is also why Rashford is said to have come back into focus at BVB. Schade’s market value is currently 22 million euros and his current contract runs until 2028.
In addition, BVB also wants to make use of Chelsea FC. Carney Chukwuemeka is said to be on loan from the Blues for a quick turnaround. Dortmund would even forego an option to keep the Englishman beyond the summer. The transfer of former Augsburg player Renato Veiga, who also plays for Chelsea FC, is apparently imminent.
