Marcus Mann has been Managing Director of Sports in Hanover since March of this year. But he’s probably moving to another country. There are several candidates as successors.
Marcus Mann is apparently about to move to Austria. According to consistent media reports, the managing director of Hannover 96 is about to join Red Bull Salzburg. The club is currently looking for a successor to Rouven Schröder, who moved to Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Mann had recently turned down VfL Wolfsburg, but now a move to Salzburg seems to be becoming concrete. 96 supervisory board chairman Martin Kind confirmed the Austrian club’s interest.
The 41-year-old was only promoted to managing director at Lower Saxony this year after weeks of waiting. Because he still has a contract with Hannover until the summer of 2029, both clubs are currently negotiating a possible transfer fee.
The search for a successor could come to a head: local media names Jörg Schmadtke, among others. The 61-year-old worked very successfully in Hanover from 2009 to 2013 and is considered Kind’s preferred candidate. Schmadtke most recently worked at Liverpool FC, previously worked in Wolfsburg and Cologne, where he shaped a small era with Oliver Glasner (Wolfsburg) and Peter Stöger (Cologne).
The “Kicker” also names Fredi Bobic as having “outsider chances”. According to “Bild”, however, he is just as unrealistic as Schmadtke. Dieter Hecking, who was most recently coach at VfL Bochum, is mentioned by “Kicker” and “Bild”. Kind told the newspaper: “We have known each other for a very long time. He would be one of the possible candidates.” According to “Bild”, an internal solution is also possible.
