Instead of taking part in the Spanish Super Cup, Marc-André ter Stegen had to leave early. It was still unclear how seriously the goalkeeper was injured. Now there is new information.

All-clear for Marc-André ter Stegen: The DFB keeper’s knee injury is not serious, said Barcelona’s sports director Deco. Ter Stegen injured his knee before the Spanish Supercopa in Saudi Arabia and returned to Barcelona. The pain had occurred during training, which is why the German goalkeeper ended it early.

Deco told Spanish TV channel Movistar+ that Ter Stegen had an uneasy feeling in his knee, which was worrying given his previous knee problems. However, Deco assured that “everything is fine.”

Coach Hansi Flick had not planned to use Ter Stegen in the semi-finals of the Supercopa against Athletic Bilbao (5-0) anyway. Instead, he trusted the regular number one, Joan García. In any case, it is likely that Ter Stegen will leave Barcelona in the winter. A loan deal with FC Girona until the end of the season is on the cards, as the DFB keeper urgently needs match practice in order to travel to the World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada as the German number one.

Ter Stegen has only been used once this season, in the cup game against CD Guadalajara. After back surgery, he lost his regular place to García. His contract with FC Barcelona runs until 2028, but his future with the team is uncertain.
