Manchester United is once again vying for Leipzig’s long-running favorite Lukeba

Market value recently increased

Since the third Bundesliga matchday, central defender Castello Lukeba has been an integral part of RB Leipzig’s starting line-up. Since then, as in the Champions League, he has played all games over the full distance and has contributed one goal to date. The Saxons’ 30 million purchase is currently with the French U21 national team, according to a report from “PictureAccording to the newspaper, Manchester United are still vying for the 20-year-old.

“He has to move forward there in order to offer himself for higher tasks again. To be honest, I would be right, given the playing time that the 20-year-old boy has at the club, that he might not have to play through both games…”, RB coach Marco Rose explained to Blick during the week on the national commitments of his long-running favorite. The 47-year-old knows what he has in the defensive worker, who has increased his market value by ten million euros since moving to Leipzig and is now one of the most valuable professionals in France in his age group (statistics).

Although Leipzig won the contract for Lukeba in the summer and gave the left-footer with Angolan roots a long-term contract until 2028, he is still on the wish list of one or two top European clubs. According to information from the paper, this also applies to United, who had already put out feelers to Lukeba at the beginning of the year, but then withdrew from the competition for the former Lyon homegrown player in the summer.

“Red Devils” coach Erik ten Hag relies on Victor Lindelöf (29), Raphaël Varane (30) and Harry Maguire (30) in the center of defense. The Swede’s contract expires at the end of the season, as does that of the currently injured veteran Jonny Evans (35). National player Luke Shaw (28) has been suffering from a muscle injury since August. It is not surprising that United have a player like Lukeba on their list with a view to the future. Scouts from Manchester have recently been to RB games several times to watch the Frenchman, the newspaper writes.

Lukeba’s departure next summer seems unlikely at this point. The Leipzig team called him their “dream player for central defense” when they signed him in the summer – he would probably only be let go after one season if there was a lucrative transfer plus.
