Manager Fredi Bobic prepares Bundesliga soccer club Hertha BSC for financially tense times.
“The company invested so much money, and Corona was then again an unforeseeable and brutal driver. Accordingly, we have to consolidate. Because the success that was hoped for through the quick capital measure has not materialized. We have to take steps now do backwards,” said Bobic to the “Münchner Merkur” and “tz on Saturday”.
The Berlin club has just announced a loss of millions in its annual report for 2021/22. Accordingly, the past season ended with a loss of 79.75 million euros. Equity shrank to 29.5 million euros.
Hertha BSC manager Fredi Bobic: “We are in a kind of consolidation”
In the past three years, Hertha had received a total of around 375 million euros from investor Lars Windhorst. However, the relationship with the financial entrepreneur is not the best, Windhorst wants to sell his shares again.
“We’re in a kind of consolidation. We’re trying to do our job with a work ethic and humility in order to rejuvenate the ‘old lady’ and bring it into the modern age. It’s the same in all traditional clubs: when structures have been broken in for a long time , they are difficult to move. We are consistently tackling this process of change,” stressed Bobic.
He urged patience: “You have to have it – far from any results. Otherwise you’ll find yourself in the third division.” In terms of sport, the club is currently in 14th place ahead of the duel with champions Bayern Munich on Saturday.
