A man was assaulted and brutally robbed of his fat bike in Tilburg on January 3. Bureau Brabant shows how the victim and his girlfriend caught two men with his fat bike. When he tries to get his bike back, he is hit several times with the chain lock and ends up in a cast.

It all happens in a supermarket parking lot on Jan Heijnsstraat. The victim has locked his fat bike in one of the adjacent bicycle racks. When the owner and his girlfriend return around 10 p.m., they see two men working on that bicycle.

The two try to open the chain lock and are caught. Instead of running away right away, they quietly walk away. One of the men casually walks away with the fat bike, the other walks in a different direction.

Struck with a chain lock
The owner doesn’t leave it at that and goes after it. You can hear and see what is happening on camera images. For example, he shouts several times that the bicycle thief must let go of his fat bike. But instead of stopping, the man lashes out with the chain lock. Several times he hits the owner, who even has to be put in a plaster cast.

Various cameras show how the thief then jumps on the fat bike and cycles away in the direction of Vredeman de Vriesstraat. The second suspect has not been captured on camera. The police therefore have no description of him.

They do have a description of the man who ran off with the fat bike. That day he wore a black winter coat, dark pants, dark sneakers and a hat.

The police would like to know who the man(s) are and are calling on witnesses to come forward.

Bureau Brabant is broadcast every Monday at 5:15 PM.
