A 43-year-old man from the municipality of Emmen died this weekend, a week after he fell out of consciousness at a police intervention in Nieuw-Dordrecht.
On Monday afternoon, June 2, the police received a report about ‘misunderstood behavior’ on the street on the Vastenow in the village. What exactly happened there is unknown. According to the police, the man resisted, after which agents intervened. During that intervention, he fell out of consciousness and had to be resuscitated.
The man was then taken to the hospital. He died there on Saturday.
The National Criminal Investigation Department investigates what happened at Vastenow and what role the police played therein. This is an independent investigation that is always done when someone dies after police intervention. The public prosecutor then decides whether there will be a criminal investigation into the actions of the agents.
During the investigation of the National Criminal Investigation Department, the police are not allowed to make any statements about what happened.
