A man died around midnight after an accident on the A28 near De Wijk. Two other passengers were seriously injured and taken to hospital. The police report this.
The incident involved two cars, one of which ended up in the ditch. One of the occupants, a 76-year-old man from Hardenberg, died shortly afterwards. The seriously injured are a woman (70) from Coevorden and a man (78) from Hoogeveen.
A 67-year-old man from Assen was in the other car. He was taken to hospital for a check-up, but was not reported to have been injured.
The A28 near De Wijk was closed for hours for a police investigation. It is still unclear how the accident could happen.
