The 71-year-old man who was seriously injured in Willemstad at the end of January when he tried to stop two burglars, has been struggling with amnesia ever since. He was hit with a heavy toolbox. The victim, his wife and their son are also still emotionally damaged by what happened to them that night. The police announced this on Tuesday evening in Opsporing Requested.

A composite drawing has been made of one of them. This was possible because the victim’s son looked him in the eye. This man has dark hair and had a beard that day as if he hadn’t shaved in a few days. The son of the victim ran after the perpetrators and saw how they drove away in a dark blue or gray car, type sedan.
Stumbling at the neighbours
The victim’s wife and son were in the parental home on Boudewijn Drenkwaartlaan when they heard a noise from the neighbors around six o’clock in the evening. The woman pulled back the curtains on one of the windows of her house, looked through the window and saw that two burglars were at work. She immediately called the police.
Meanwhile, the 71-year-old man came home, he had gone fishing that afternoon. His son told him in a whisper that two burglars had wanted to make a move at the neighbors. Together they had planned to chase the two away, with the son wanting to use a broom.
‘Recovery will take some time’
The thieves felt caught and ran away, but in the meantime knocked the 71-year-old man to the ground with a heavy and well-filled toolbox. This happened in an alley behind the man’s house. While the burglars fled the scene, the victim was rushed to a hospital. He had to have immediate surgery to relieve the pressure in his head, which involved putting a metal plate in his head. He is now home, but the recovery will take some time, according to the police.
Several precious items were taken during the burglary at the neighbour’s house. They may have been offered for sale somewhere since then. These include a jewelry box with Pandora bracelets with charms, a silver necklace with a Rijksdaalder pendant, gold-plated cufflinks, a gold pendant with pearl and various silver watches and rings.
