A 31-year-old man from Halsteren has been arrested as a suspect after the murder of a 75-year-old woman from the same location. The woman had been missing since Tuesday evening and was found dead that night in a forest in Halsteren. It later turned out that she had died as a result of a crime. On Saturday afternoon, the police arrested the suspect in Amsterdam.
On Wednesday, detectives spent all day investigating the spot where the dead woman was found. Officers also searched for camera images and asked passers-by if they had seen anything. This is how the police arrived at the man from Halsteren on Friday evening. The police cannot yet say whether they tracked him down because someone recognized him or through camera images.
The police searched his home address in Halsteren in vain on Friday evening. The officers also looked for relatives in Amsterdam, because there was suspicion that he had gone there on Friday evening. The man was eventually arrested on the street in Amsterdam around half past four on Saturday afternoon.
The man is in custody and is being interrogated. Whether he is known to the woman is still being investigated.
