Man (28) under the influence threatens to cut students’ throat and enters apartment in Leuven | Louvain

An intervention team of the Leuven police arrested a 28-year-old man under the influence after he broke into the apartment of two students. Shortly before, he had threatened some other students with death. The public prosecutor’s office has demanded a judicial investigation for threats, violation of residence and carrying weapons for no legal reason.

During the evening of Friday, June 30, 2023, an intervention team from the Leuven police zone was requested to go to the Handbooghof for acts of threats. At the scene, the police found a group of students who indicated that they were threatened by a man who walked past with his dog. The man appeared to be intoxicated, became agitated and said he would stab them with his scissors and cut their throats.

“When the intervention team carried out a patrol in the area as a result of these facts, it was approached on the Kapucijnenvoeder by two students who indicated that a man had entered their apartment,” says the Leuven public prosecutor’s office. “At the apartment, the police found that the front door had been smashed open with a fire extinguisher. The suspect was found with scissors in his hand in the living quarters and arrested. It turned out to be a 28-year-old man of no fixed abode. During his interrogation, the suspect admitted the facts. He indicated that he was under the influence of narcotics and stated that he was angry because he could not find his dog.”
