Man (27) arrested in Helmond in case of murder of Peter R. de Vries

A 27-year-old man was arrested in Helmond on Tuesday evening because he was allegedly involved in the murder of Peter R. de Vries. The Public Prosecution Service (OM) reports this on Wednesday morning.

The man, who was born on Curaçao, was arrested around half past nine on Tuesday evening in a house in Helmond. Police and justice suspect that he was part of a criminal network that carries out violent jobs for payment.

Restrictions have been imposed on the man. This means that he may only have contact with his lawyer. Peter R. de Vries was shot in Amsterdam on July 6, 2021. He died nine days later.

Demanded for life
The two suspected perpetrators, who were arrested shortly after the attack, have since been sentenced to life imprisonment. The court recently postponed the ruling indefinitely, because the Public Prosecution Service added new witness statements to the file after the trial was completed.

From July 4, the investigation into other possible persons involved in the murder plot seems to have gained momentum. In the penitentiary in Lelystad, the police then arrested 27-year-old Pole Krystian M. in his cell; he would have directed the performers directly. The man was detained in connection with a liquidation attempt in Zeewolde in October last year.

Multiple arrests
Two suspects, aged 26 and 27, were also arrested on the same day in Spain and Curaçao. The three suspects are all in custody.

It is suspected that the murder of Peter R. de Vries has to do with his role as a confidential adviser in the extensive liquidation process Marengo, in which the main suspect is Ridouan Taghi. Earlier, the brother and the lawyer of the key witness were murdered. The new witness in the case against the two executors, Delano G. and Kamil E., has stated, among other things, about the link to Taghi.
