Sharing recognizable images of a witness is exceptional, the police admit. “We know that making his face recognizable is an invasion of his privacy. But this case has had such a major impact on society that the Public Prosecution Service finds showing the photo of the witness justified,” said the police spokeswoman. The Public Prosecution Service has offered a reward of 15,000 euros for the golden tip in this case.

The 27-year-old Heuvelman was seriously assaulted on July 14, 2021 around 02.15 am together with friends during a confrontation with a group of young people on the boulevard of the seaside resort of El Arenal on the Spanish island of Mallorca. He died on July 18 from his injuries.

Last November, the first hearing took place for five suspects allegedly involved in the assault. Two of the suspects are allowed to await their trial in freedom, the three main suspects are still in custody. The next pre-trial hearing in this case will take place on Friday.
